My family has melded in with the community quite easily and comfortably. In the year that we've been here, many new families have joined.(Some with kids!) Baruch H-Shem!
Not what i was expecting at all.
I found out the next day, from someone describing the way he looks, the Rabbi was there; but I honestly didnt know and wasn't approached by anyone. Since I felt the "go away" vibe for being an outsider, I just left.
I walked in there 2 days in a row for morning services, said "hello" to a few people, and no one reciprocated greetings.
Having experienced Anshei Chesed initially in 2010 then moreso in 2014 (at the end of my fathers life) I returned there when my mother was injured in late 2016 (just before the holidays). The shul and the community have wrapped their arms around me with housing, meals and great concern. I have spent more time here over the past year then in NY. The people and the shul have truly earned the name of Anshei Chesed. I cannot have asked for anything more.
We moved into the Boynton Beach area last June 20015.It was a bit of a culture-shock for us, coming from Monsey, N.Y., meeting people 15 to 20 years older than us, and dressed a little differently than what we were used to in shull. However, I went through a paradigm shift as I started meeting the congregants, meeting their intelligence, meeting their mentchlekeit, meeting their Torah wisdom, meeting their ageless inner and outer beauty. There are also families our age and an increasing number of younger families also joining Anchei Chesid, ..They're all amazing, bright, gifted and giving people. Rabbi Billet and his Rebbetson Chana are awesome in that they are really professional jugglers. I mean, how else can you describe a Rabbi who's also a mohel, is pretty much always available for shailos, always presents thought-provoking shiurim addressing pertinant subjects, from Parsha to politics, to many varied Torah subjects, to yom-tovim, etc. AND is an attentive father & husband (good model for all of us) Rabbi Billet has gone and will go the extra mile to be there for the spiritual and personal needs of his community. Chana is simply the female version of all the good midot of her husband; her personality is an embodiment of the word "delightful."
No one was even able to say they didn't see me as I was the only male saying 'kaddish' both days. Most of the congregation stared at me then. One person gave the head nod hello on my way out.
Where I come from (Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY), when there is a new face in the synagogue, a few people go over and say hello; including the Rabbi.
Very nice shul. Nice weekday davening and daf yomi. Nice welcoming chevra.
